It
may not always be fair to compare Xbox and PS2 versions of
the same game, but it’s hard not to when talking about
a game like Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Like the original
Splinter Cell, there are unique differences that separate
the PS2 version of the game from its Xbox counterpart.

For starters, this game seems to push the console’s
hardware to the limit. Improved shadows and lighting conditions
make for a more refreshing visual presentation, but the game’s
limitations are also fairly obvious. Case in point: the PS2
version is generally much darker than the Xbox version, and
you can’t shoot out every light. And though certain
visual elements are pleasing to the eye (like the sunset in
the opening mission), others look pasted together (like the
submarine mission).
You
might notice the odd glitch here and there like a character
talking but with no sound or some really bad clipping issues
in the jungle missions, but they’re not bad to the point
that they detract from the overall game.
The
multiplayer, meanwhile, is easily one of the best additions
to the game, although the online component is limited to those
with broadband Internet. Playing as an agent in third-person
or a mercenary in first-person is fun in either role, and needless
to say, this kind of multiplayer helps ensure that there will
be a replay value to this game.
Despite
its obvious limitations, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is
a superb game for the PS2,and definitely worth a look for
those who like games filled with patience and strategy.
