Looking
by

Deep in
the city the filth from the street reaches up and claws at my eyes
Home in the sewers the rodents run rabid as their time moves steadily
by
Holding my breath as I wade through the swamp of lies the leeches
of truth try my skin
Down in the pits the tears blind my eyes while my soul sports a survival
sin
Sinking,
drowning in mud, someone throw us a line
Someone send us a lifeboat
Some send us a sign
Castle of
stone, standing alone, pulling strings, using guns, bleeding the poor
Holder of kings and killer of saints who cry for children of rats
that breed in the sewer
Cynical skins in drag shout shyly at the life moving freestanding
structure
And they fight for anarchy while misunderstanding human nature
The worms
may scar the bark
But they cannot kill the tree
They cannot kill the tree
The priest
in the parish pulls out his pistol and pegs off a floundering nun
Out in the yard the banks hold the cards and deal them over again
Out in the fields the farmers have wheels and drive their products
to sell
Poison in life, yellow not white, the forest in flames, the forests
of hell
Broken
candles, backs and words
Crying mothers, dying birds
We all have a place we can go in the end
We all need something
We're all searching for something
We're all looking for something
I guess I'm looking for you
