Dear Mother,
Dad’s house smells of barbecue sauce. He said his guy friends
came over last night. He showed me where to put my suitcase and
I flopped down on the double bed.
My new room is powder blue and the bedspread is iris blossom print.
I hate it. I liked the orange duvet you bought for me better.
I picked up one of the magazines in the blue room; it was Teen People
April last year. I guess Dad had been saving it for me or something.
Remember when we read InStyle together?
Dinner came
and Dad wasn’t making anything, I wanted sandwiches but he
didn’t have any ham or cheese or… come to think of it,
bread. We ordered Chinese.
Miss You,
Lor

Please see me after class,
Thanks,
Mr. Joe

Loraine, dear
Honey, I just hope you are finding things well at your Dad’s.
Remember, your parents decided what’s right.

Dear Mother,
School here is weird. Everyone stared as I plopped my binder on
the last empty desk. I arrived half an hour late because Dad lost
his palm pilot and couldn’t remember what time school started.
All the teachers are okay, but one of them is strange. He wears
red bow ties and winked at me during 5th period study break.
I miss California.
Love,
your daughter Loraine

See you?
-Loraine

Loraine:
Yes, you must have received the note from me from Kelly in the office,
right?
Mr. Joe

Mr. Joe,
Yes
-Loraine

Loraine:
Then
why weren’t you there after class?
Mr. Joe

Mr. Joe
Truthfully,
Mr. Joe I couldn’t remember which classroom was yours. I’m
honestly sorry. Is it room 386?
-Loraine
----------------------------------
Loraine:
No, 388.
I’m sorry, I’d forgotten you were new here. Would you
like me to show you around?
-Mr.
Joe

Dear Mother,
Haven’t
you been getting my letters?
Why aren’t
you writing? You promised we would stay in touch. I miss you Mom
