JUNE
30-Back
to reality for Lorraine. Final proofing for the Back-to-School
Issue up at the printing plant! Meanwhile she's still getting
the sand out of her hair from the California surfing lessons.
JUNE 26-29-Faze's Editor Lorraine and our star teen reporter
Maya were invited to check out an absolutely amazing resort down
in San Diego, CA for the weekend. The Hotel Del Coronado is rated
the #2 beach in North American and USA Today rates it one the
top 10 resorts in the world. Well...after a weekend there Lorraine
and Maya can definitely say it deserves its reputation. The property
(and Coronado Beach) are huge and there was always loads going
on for teens and adults. Lorraine and Maya took in great meals,
surfing lessons, beach volleyball, yoga and spa on the beach,
clambakes and lots more. If the folks are looking for a family
holiday destination, talk them into this place, it ain't cheap
but if they're paying...hey, you'll have the time of your life
as a teen! (They even filmed a bunch of Baywatch episodes here!)
Thanks to Regan Romanoff for being a world class host.
JUNE 22-Faze was at the Much Music Video Awards again this
year. Great time as always...we'll get photos up soon in a special
section on the Faze site. Faze followed up at the Courtyard club
after the show where a bunch of the artists and bands hung out,
including Avril Lavigne!
JUNE 21-Launch party at the Guvernment in Toronto for a new
dance compilation put together by HiBias records, a strong Canadian
label in the club/dance music scene. They export alot of their
CDs to Japan, Germany and the UK. The new CD is a Guvernment branded
compilation with a very cool mix happening, managing to avoid
sounding dated/cliched/corny as some generic dance mixes tend
to.
JUNE 13-Back-to-School photoshoot 2...done by Rob D, in studio
JUNE 12-Back-to-School fashion shoot down at Ryerson University!...done
by Nick
JUNE 5-Another busy one, on top of going crazy getting ready
for the Aug/Sept issue Faze interviewed new British rock outfit
FICTION PLANE in Toronto. Faze was really were taken by their
debut album and had it spinning in the CD for the last week or
so quite independently of this last minute interview. Great down
to earth guys creating very fresh, interesting music. And we just
realized singer-songwriter-guitarist Joe Sumner is the son of
Gordon Sumner...better known as STING. We'll be checking them
out live at the El Mocambo in Toronto on Friday June 6.
JUNE
5-After
the FICTION PLANE interview Faze was off to a great EMI rooftop
party. Met the guys from SUM 41 (except for Deryk who's apparently
resting sore vocal cords) and lots of amazing folks. Thanks
to Mike and Tanya for a great party.

players (one-on-one) in North America. Tonight the field narrowed
to just eight. A final event will crown the Toronto king of the
court to head to the US to compete for the final prize (cash,
sponsorship, etc.) Very cool scene...some great one on one b-ball.

issues, summer beachwear, a 100-year history of bathing suits,
a Faze interview with Margaret Atwood, being your own boss and

MAY
11-What
an absolutely great city Ottawa is. Shame that it's the coldest
national capital on the planet, behind Moscow. Today was National
Marathon race day! Faze had participants in the 5km walk and
a two first time participants in the 21km marathon, Lorraine
and Kelly Ann. Kelly Ann finished in 2h17m, Lorraine followed
at 2h39m. Way to go, girls. Weather was cool, windy with some
rain....

MARCH

MAR
26-Big
editorial meeting with our teen and college students to get the
Summer issue content finalized. Thanks to everyone across Canada
who has given Faze cool ideas for articles. The summer issue is
out later in May.
MAR 21-Been getting great feedback from the latest spring
issue. Wait until you see the rest of the year!
MAR 17-Seems
Bush's personal vendetta against one man (Saddam, of course)
will lead to the US military directly and deliberately killing
thousands of innocent men, women and children in Iraq and causing
suffering and eventual death to millions more. Bush has never
had any interest in peace, his only focus was to punish Saddam
Hussein. To satisfy this personal grudge of Bush, millions will
die or suffer. American public opinion, the UN, inspectors,
and the overwhelmingly majority of the planet are simply annoying
obstacles in his way to be ridiculed and ignored. We should
revisit the definitions of the terms dictator, tyrant or despot---"an
oppressive ruler who exercises power in a harsh, cruel manner"
SOUNDS LIKE GEORGE BUSH JR!!!!
Let's pray there will be a last minute burst of common sense
from the US rulers.
MAR
17-Happy
St. Patrick's Day...wear a little green!!! It's Faze's favourite
colour as well!

FEB
28-Alright guys (and gals)...we've got our hands on the PC
version of probably the hottest video game of the past 6 months,
Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's: Splinter Cell. On the XBox it has been
voted #1 for Best Game, Best Sound, Best Graphics, Best Storyline.
So, needless to say, we were stoked to get it up and running.
Unfortunately, we discovered our office PCs were too slow (at
600 & 800 Mhz) for optimal enjoyment...so we've decided to
wait an extra week and create a hot new testing station...long
overdue. As soon as that's up and running we'll give Splinter
Cell a run through and give you our own impresssions. Perhaps,
the coolest thing is that it was developed by the Ubisoft design
team in Montreal!!! Sounds like a good future homegrown story
for the magazine!
FEB
28-Check out the Bike Show this weekend
in Toronto. We'll be there.
FEB 26-Faze interview with Boomcat.
FEB 25-Faze Magazine had some great
unexpected coverage early this week on TV newsprograms
and in newspapers thanks to a bunch of rabid Avril fans in her
hometown of Napanee, ON waving around copies of Faze magazine!
FEB 24-Avril was robbed!!! Canadian winners included Diana
Krall (vocal jazz) and Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings soundtrack)
FEB 23-Good luck to all the Canadian nominees at the Grammy's,
but mostly good luck to Avril...you're the best this year by
far!
RANT TIME : What we don't get is Norah Jones...come on..how
boring...taking a musical genre that's decades old and stale
(light, middle of the road white female vocal lounge jazz -
see Diana Krall) written by a bunch of old guys for a talented
and attractive 22-year old. Norah...you seem like a wonderful
person but sorry, Avril deserves the prize...it's shame the
Academy is made up of a bunch of old guys, we'll see how they
vote.
FEB 19-Faze Interview with British rockers The Music. The
guys in the band were really great. They also talked us out
of our office soccer ball (a Spalding Infusion) to take on their
current tour (they're opening for Coldplay). Went to see their
show down at the Rivoli in Toronto...5 star performance...they
sound as good or better live vs. CD. Great energy too...with
the lead singer dancing like a wildman through the entire set.
Loved it!
FEB
17-Faze will be meeting the stars of
WWE at the upcoming RAW event in Toronto.
FEB 16-The new spring issue of Faze is getting ready to go
to press, a great new collection of articles and interviews for
you guys. Grammy nominee Craig David is on the cover.
FEB 14-The Winter Contest has come to a close. There's been
a mad rush of entries to push the total well above 10,000...a
new Faze record. Draws will take place as soon all the entries
are recorded. We'll contact all winners in the next couple of
weeks and then post the names on the website.
FEB 14-Happy Valentine's!
FEB 9-Faze's own Paul was a finalist in the Ontario Squash
Championship...missed winning the tournament by just two points
in the fifth game.
