What it’s
about: If you’ve played SOCOM on a console
already, then you don’t need to read this part. But
if you haven’t, you play as part of a two-man commando
squad of U.S. Navy SEALs and your missions usually revolve
around disrupting terrorist activity.
What’s
good about it: Again, if you’ve played
SOCOM on a console already, then you’ll feel right at
home with this one. The layout is exactly the same, and though
the button configurations are a little different, you shouldn’t
have too much trouble. Plus, there’s a “Crosstalk”
feature that allows you to hook up your PSP to your PS2 (with
a USB cable) and affect the way missions play out in either
game.
What’s
NOT good about it: SOCOM, even on the consoles,
always had sub par graphics, and that trend continues in this
PSP version. Everything looks too blocky and pasted together.
You might also get some lag when playing against someone else
in ad hoc or infrastructure mode, but luckily it’s not
too common.
What’s
the verdict: It’s good, that’s
what the verdict is. If you have a PSP and you liked SOCOM
on the console, do yourself a favour and pick this one up.
You won’t be disappointed.
