What it’s
about: It’s the NBA in a video game
for the 2005-06 season. It really is that simple.
What’s
good about it: EA was under some pressure
to make this game better than ever because the competition
(namely the 2K series) was starting to take over on the virtual
court. And the good news is that they succeeded in creating
a more realistic balling experience. You’ve got the
Freestyle Superstars addition, which lets you perform some
spectacular moves just like the real-life Steve Nash or Allen
Iverson would. And playing against others online in the All-Star
Weekend events? Talk about impressive.

What’s NOT
good about it: The Freestyle
Superstar thing can be frustrating because it doesn’t
treat all the superstars the same way. Since when can Paul
Pierce make Tim Duncan look stupid with the same move three
times in a row? Needless to say, this new addition needs some
tweaking for next year.
What’s the
verdict: Hey, this is
a good one, no question about it. EA stepped up and put out
a much better game than last year. Now all they have to do
is improve the Freestyle Superstars addition and maybe add
something cool like first-person ball control.
