What it’s about:
The Godfather is considered one of the greatest movies of
all time, and it's hard to argue with that. A great story,
great acting and great settings all combined to make it what
it still is. But this is the first time we've ever seen the
mafia don, Vito Corleone, in a video game. In this game, you
create your own character and try to work your way up the
Corleone family ladder, earning the respect and fear of both
your comrades and enemies in the process.
What’s good about it:
How the story plays out with a character who obviously played
no role in the movie was going to be a deciding factor, but
thankfully, EA pulls it off nicely here. As the goon that
tries to work his way up, you do all the dirty work for the
Corleone family. You'll extort money from business owners,
rough up competitors and eventually start making a lot of
money. But the way you're thrown into the mix works pretty
well. If you know the movie, then you'll know what I mean.
You also get the voices from all the original actors (this
was actually the last thing Marlon Brando did before he died).
The Grand Theft Auto style of The Godfather was perfect for
the game, and it allows you to do your own thing some of the
time.

What’s NOT good about
it: The graphics aren't bad but the buildings in
New York look a little too similar. At times, it's hard to
figure out if you're in Little Italy or some other part of
the city. Not only that, but the little side missions you
have to do start falling into a repetitive trend too. The
other odd thing is the driving. You would think that cars
back then were heavier than they are today, but you end up
speeding down streets as if you just went through a timewarp
into the present day. And don't even bother trying to drive
from one side of New York to the other. It'll take you a long
time.
What’s the verdict:
The Godfather is a good
game, especially since it doesn't ruin the image or reputation
of the movie. There won't be much for you to do after finishing
the whole game, but you should be able to enjoy the experience
anyway.
