Most rap-heads out there know it. In order for an artist
to be successful and respected, they have to have some sense
of originality. They also need a steady array of lyrics,
both powerful and catching. Most
importantly they must remain true to the sacred culture
of hip-hop. Dream Warriors latest record, The Legacy
Continues… seems to fit most of those qualities.
In
the past, Dream Warriors have been known for being the underground
Canadian hip-hop act that always stayed true to their art,
but ultimately lacked that appeal that is crucial to the
trade. In this album, we realize that although none of the
songs are completely off the hook, except for maybe “Unstoppable,”
that was not the purpose of the album. Dream Warriors use
a diversity of sounds, integrated with lyrics powerful in
nature that relays a different sonic experience with each
track.
So
it doesn’t matter that you won’t see a Dream
Warriors CD in your friends ride, or hear them being blasted
up in the club. All that matters is that this Canadian duo
which has been banging since the late eighties is still
around. Regardless of whether or not you consider Dream
Warriors a good rap group, you must respect them for staying
true to their art. In the rap game, where such an artist
is rarity, listening to The Legacy Continues…
was a pleasure.
