Less Than Jake
By Maya Chendke
Less
Than Jake is still alive. The band has had a facelift and is back
on the map with their latest release, In With The Out Crowd,
and they’re ready to rock out on this year’s Vans
Warped Tour.
Best known for being the badass ska-punk “it” band
of a few years ago (flashback to 1995’s Pezcore),
they’re reintroducing the classic LTJ sound after having
learned from past mistakes. “One of the mistakes we made
is we put too much trust in everybody but ourselves,” says
trombone player, Buddy, of their challenges over the past decade.
Instead of playing the blame game, LTJ took matters into their
own hands. “Now we try to make sure we do a lot of stuff
ourselves, [instead of] leaving a lot of stuff up to other people,”
says Buddy.
One thing that remains constant with LTJ is their notorious reputation.
Lead singer Chris Demakes was arrested recently for disturbing
the peace while the band tried to shoot the video for their new
single, “Overrated.” Chris was nabbed while the band
played guerrilla-style for the shoot at a mall. Luckily, they
had already shot scenes on Hollywood Boulevard, at a nightclub,
and at an adult video store. Who knows what trouble they’ll
get themselves into on the upcoming tour?
The band: Less Than Jake, a reborn ska-punk band
from Gainesville, Florida.
Right now: The release of their new album, In
With The Out Crowd, featuring the single “Overrated”.
Catch them: On the road with the Vans Warped
Tour this summer.
