Mario
Hot, Hot, Hot
by Sydnia Yu
Some people like to sing in the shower; Mario likes to perform
after getting out of it. “When I get out of the shower, sometimes
I dance in front of the mirror nekked,” he says with a laugh.
“One time I did it in my hotel room and I looked up and my window
was open. There’s no shame in my game.”
Mario brings this unrestrained and fearless attitude to his
sophomore album, Turning Point, especially on tracks that explore
love and love lost and the 18-year-old Baltimore native admits an
old crush confronted him about hiding his true feelings from her.
“She came up to me and said, ‘I know that song was about me,’”
he begins to explain. “This was the girl – the one you know you go
to school and used to look good for her. I wanted to be like, ‘Yes, it
was about you! Can I have a hug?’ But I couldn’t let her know.”
But besides lessons of the heart, Mario has learned more about
himself and where he wants to be as an artist since his
phenomenal debut three years ago. “I can embrace (success) more
because I can understand what it means to create something and
see it come to life.”
