Whaddya Think?
Do you think celebrities go too far for publicity?

It comes to a point where what they do is so
over-the-top that it's not normal. It's not even
entertaining anymore. And I think it’s only going
to get worse. Once they capture someone's
attention, they keep going.
Cam R., 17
I think we are paying too much attention to it.
These are just stupid stunts, and that’s their
objective. If we feed into it they will continue
doing it because they’re getting the benefits of
it. Sex definitely sells but I think they are going
too far with it. I think they are pushing the limits.
Natalie M., 16
I think they go to extremes just to get
publicized. Everyone's trying to outdo each other
and therefore crossing boundaries. Also, people
need to be educated about what is reality versus
what is entertainment. What Britney and Marilyn
Manson do, is for attention and publicity. It’s not
how they lead their real lives.
Colin C., 17
I think the stuff they do, most people do, but it
gets more news because it is blown out of
proportion by the media. People should lighten
up about it. There are other things people should
be talking about. It’s funny and it’s entertaining,
but it’s not very important.
Max G., 17
No. I find it entertaining. It’s interesting to see
what other people are doing. I won't buy Gucci
sunglasses just because [David] Beckham is
wearing them: it's just what's happening out
there right now.
Jamie P., 19
They need to keep our interest up and if they
don’t, then nobody likes them. They need to do
crazy things – look we are discussing it now. We
are so desensitized with war and violence on TV
that they have to do over-the-top things to hold
our attention.
Willy H., 17
No. You often wonder what a celebrity does with
so much money. Perhaps for younger kids it's
inappropriate to see certain publicity stunts, but
it doesn't shock me. Adults also might view it as
inappropriate for their kids but I think it's okay
for us.
Stacee S., 16
They should encourage artists to be classier.
You see the style now, and everyone wants to
look like Britney but I wouldn’t be surprised that
there’ll be crazier stuff. It’s pretty degrading
when you have people dressing like that. The
singers think they are gonna sell more records.
Paul G., 15
Some of the things they do, like with Britney and
Madonna, and Justin and Janet, is going over the
top. A lot of kids really look up to them to see
what they’re doing. But, for the most part, I
don’t feel they are going too far but maybe
someone should monitor things.
