REAL LIFE
From Issue #14

Whaddya Think?
Do you think going to university/college
is important for success?

Interviews and photos by Jennifer Boylan

Tanya R, 17
I believe that it isn’t what you know but who you know. I also think that if you work hard and are very ambitious you can be just as successful as a person that went to university.

Kaytlin D, 15
Yes, because a university degree will show that you are hard working and have the knowledge to do well. University allows you to expand your knowledge on a topic that you are interested in and prepares you for the future. The competition for employment is very competitive, so a university degree can only put you a step ahead.

Nicholas B, 17
Being successful has more to do with being ambitious than with knowledge. If you go to university I think it is important to go to a well-known school that everyone has heard about and has a great reputation. University can help you become successful, but you also have to rely on your own determination and hard work if you want to be successful.

Natalie C, 14
No, because some people I know didn’t go to university and they are successful. I don’t believe that in order to be successful you need to go to university. University costs a lot and not every person can afford to go. Most kids that can’t afford it try for scholarships but there are very few scholarships offered.

Erika R, 17
Yes, because employers will see that you are experienced and interested and dedicated to your work. A university degree will allow you better opportunities for employment. I think in the future all businesses will require you to have a university or college degree.

Alysha D, 16
Even if you go to university you are not guaranteed a job when you’re finished school. I know from experience with family friends that sometimes businesses may not hire you even if you have a university degree.

Julie H, 14
Yes, because if you go to university people will respect you more and realize that you are hard working and intelligent. I think you will have a better chance of receiving a high paying job and a job you love. University will also give you the experience of meeting people from all different cultures and people that share the same interests as you. I also think that university may give you connections that you may not have received anywhere else.

Ashley M, 17
Yes, even if you have a degree it is sometimes hard to get a job, but I would rather have a university degree because it still allows you to be a step ahead of everyone else.

Zack K, 17
Yes. I think university is a great experience as it provides you with the education you need, and allows you to meet new people. It makes you more independent and allows you to grow up.
