Canadian Idol Winner Ryan Malcolm
The Wild Card
by Jennifer Boylan
“Anytime you have a dream, you never know what can
happen unless you give it your all,” says 24-year-old
Canadian Idol, Ryan Malcolm.
Ryan’s hope of making it
was shattered when he was voted off Canadian Idol at
the beginning of the competition. When handed the
wildcard—and a second chance—Ryan was determined
to grow and learn from his past mistakes, and says, “It
really humbled me. I think it was really good that I didn’t
get voted in the first time. I think that it was the best
thing that could have happened to my career.”
And like all of us, Ryan too was plagued by life’s ordinary
questions before he was propelled to instant stardom.
“It was funny because right before Canadian Idol,
a big issue for me was ‘what do I want to do with the
rest of my life? Do I want to continue singing in casinos
or get a ‘real job’ in an office?’” Luckily for Ryan,
Canadian Idol will now allow him to follow the dreams
he has nurtured since he was 10 years old.
