Ever notice when a celebrity wins an award they first thank God and then they thank their moms? Or when someone gets a chance to be on camera they like to throw in a “Hi Mom.”
I guess it’s because there’s something pretty special about them. Of course, sometimes (okay, maybe a lot of times) they make you want to pull your hair out or drive your fist into the wall but after you cool down you realize all their badgering, nagging, grounding and scolding stems from one thing: they love us. Really love us. No matter how cruel, insensitive and sometimes downright hateful we are, they always seem to open up their hearts and let us back in.
So, I guess it’s no surprise that Craig David’s best friend is his mom (see page 26). He says that both she and his dad really influenced his life. And Mario’s special someone is also his mom (page 38). We never know what or who will help us get where we want to go, but often, when you ask successful people who helped them along the way it’s usually someone in their family. If you ask Solange Knowles (page 36) she says mom, dad and big sis, Beyoncé, have all been a huge part of her success.
I know when I wanted to start Faze my family was behind me all of the way. Especially my mom, who I never see enough of anymore, but who’s always there when I need her. Same goes for Swollen Members’ Mad Child who is thankful that his family put up the $20,000 he needed to get his label, Battleaxe Records, off the ground (page 41).
We can’t predict the future but we can make plans. So prepare yourself for fame and fortune by having your acceptance speech ready: “I’d like to thank the fans for voting for me and I’d like to thank my mom for putting up with me…”
