ISSUE #50 Q & A

Faze Reader:
My best friend just received her dress that she ordered online for our grad ball and IT’S POSITIVELY HIDEOUS. I’m sorry—she can pull off anything else, but what she is planning on wearing is a MAJOR fashion faux pas. What should I do to prevent her from making this mistake?
RED:
It’s a dress, not a criminal offence. There is no long-term consequence to wearing something inadvisable. If she likes it and it makes her feel good, that’s all that matters. If she asks what you think about the dress, be honest; you don’t want a lie coming back on you. But if she doesn’t ask for your opinion and you give it anyway, you’re just making her dress about you.
ED:
Say nothing and be glad you’ll be better dressed than she is. It’s a dog-eat-dog world.

Faze Reader:
I don’t have the best looking face in the world and that’s why I try to make up for it by exercising a ton. MY FRIENDS CALL ME UGLY (face-wise), but gorgeous (body-wise). My question is, can having nice clothes make up for an ugly face? Should I start investing in some really nice clothing?
RED:
Sarah Jessica Parker says yes. But I think that finding friends that don’t call you ugly is a good idea too.
ED:
Having nice clothes won’t make up for having friends that pick you apart, unless of course you stuff those clothes in their stupid pie holes. Also, I have known some women who don’t have model-like faces, but are considered hot because of how they carry themselves and because they have a personality that people like to spend time with, as opposed to “pretty” girls who are way too into being pretty and nothing else.

Faze Reader:
My MOM GOT REALLY MAD AT ME for putting on makeup this morning to go to school. I don’t understand. All my friends’ moms let them wear makeup! I’m 13 years old. Why is she so annoying?!
RED:
Yeah, I had this ght with my mom too. She’s just worried and not ready for you to grow up yet. See if you can make a compromise with her by starting with only wearing makeup on special occasions. Once she realizes that you won’t get labelled as a word I’m not sure I can say in this column, she’ll calm down.
ED:
I think it depends on how much makeup you put on. If you look like a circus clown or a drag queen, your mom’s right. It’s better to appeal to her experience and knowledge and ask her to show you the “right way” to put on makeup. Making up stuff like that usually works.

Faze Reader:
I went to the movies with a guy I met. We cuddled, held hands and even kissed. We have so much in common, but we have enough differences between us to keep things interesting. Recently, I’ve been noticing that WE’VE BEEN TEXTING LESS and less. I am usually the one that instigates the conversation. I want to talk to him about it, but I don’t want to look needy. Help!
RED:
I think the first thing you need to do is decide why you want to have this conversation. If you want to “convince” him that you’re worth the texts, don’t. If you want an honest answer about where things stand, that’s different. I don’t think you’ll look needy if you’re actually willing to hear the truth. It could be that he’s just going through some stuff right now. It could be that, for whatever reasons, he’s lost interest. Or he could just be a GUY and therefore doesn’t pay attention to something that isn’t on fire, bleeding or edible. Before you talk to him though, I’d suggest spending a week with no contact with him. See what happens.
RED:
Chances are he is a teenage guy, so he is as awkward about girls as you are about guys, but he shows it differently. Don’t start the tweets. Learn some self-control. People value what’s rare, not what’s lying around everywhere.
