A CINDERELLA STORY:
ONCE UPON A SONG

review by Dana Marie Krook

Can’t get enough of that glass slipper?

A thematic sequel to the earlier versions (one starring Hilary Duff, another Selena Gomez), A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song follows Katie Gibbs (Lucy Hale) as she’s forced to follow orders from her stepmother and stepsister—and that means using her vocal talents to record songs that will have her sister's name attached to them. Katie doesn’t want to be put back in foster care, but she’s living like a slave. Will she be able to find her own voice and freedom?

Also starring Missi Pyle (Dodgeball), Megan Park (The Secret Life) and Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince).

Faze caught up with the star of the film, Pretty Little Liar's Lucy Hale, to chat about passion, attitude and Prince Charming.

Tell us a little bit about your Cinderella, Katie, in this new film? What is your favourite thing about her personality?

LH: Katie is the underdog of the movie; she's an outcast and she does her own thing. But she's really passionate about one thing in her life and that is her music. When she sings, it comes from her heart, and that's my favourite part.

LH: They are similar in the sense that it's the rags to riches sort of story, but Katie's a little bit sassier, a little bit edgier. She's more strong-minded than the other two.

Katie's stepsister tries to steal her spotlight in the movie. What would you do if someone tried that in real life?

LH: I would completely confront them immediately. I am a very nice person, but I always stick up for myself. That's one of the traits that I like about myself is that I don't put up with someone talking about me or spreading false things about me. I would have handled the situation much different from Katie in the movie.

How would you describe your Prince Charming in real life?

LH: Oh, Prince Charming. If he exists. Hmm... Funny, smart, really kind. Somebody easy-going. Somebody who can keep me on my toes, 'cause I'm sort of all over the place. Somebody who can handle me, because I'm a handful. [laughs] To me, I think the greatest thing about someone is talent and loving what they do--being driven... Yeah, he's out there, somewhere.

A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song is now available on DVD. Check it out!
